| Cicero is a prominent statesman and philosopher of the late Roman republic,he put forward a lot of practical ideas to save the republic in peril,maintaining social order as the goal in the long-term study of ancient Greek philosophy and political practice.However people generally ignored the relevance of Cicero’s philosophy thoughts and its practical influence to the thoughts of later generations,so it is necessary to study Cicero’s philosophy systematically and deeply for the purpose of Cicero’s philosophy returning to the proper position,but also to eliminate the current immoral phenomena in society and seek a possible theoretical guidance and solution for it.Obligation is one of the most important thoughts of Cicero’s philosophy topics and it must return to the proper position under the background of lack of morality and virtue.Considering the current social phenomenon of lack of of obligation sense and irresponsibility,it is necessary to deepen the understanding of obligation through the study of obligation Cicero’s thoughts,and let people know why we need to fulfill the obligation,and teach people how to fulfill the obligation.At first,this paper summarizes the study status of Cicero’s obligation thoughts.At present,the study on this part is still insufficient.Secondly,the social background of Cicero’s obligation thoughts is introduced,that is,the Roman republic is faced with the situation of internal and external difficulties,and the citizens ignored their moral obligations in order to protect themselves.Then,this paper clarify the ideas of Plato’s citizen obligation thoughts,early stoics natural rationality thoughts,as well as the Epicurus ethics thought of contract,and how they affect Cicero’s obligation thoughts as the origin of Cicero’s obligation thoughts;Then it analyzes the reason why people fulfill their obligations,which is rooted in the superiority of human beings over other animals,that is,human beings are rational and moral.And then it summarized the source of the obligation is the moral good,mainly includes four key elements:wisdom,justice,courage,temperance this four types of virtue,and each kind of source produce certain moral obligation;After it illustrates the connotation of Cicero obligation idea is to pursue and find the truth,do not hurt others,protect other people’s interests,keep one’s word,have a capacity for great courage,have temperance,self-control and considerate of other people;In addition,according to the subject and object of obligation,it can be divided into personal obligation,obligation to others,obligation to the country,and the country’s obligation.Finally,in combination with the reality significance of Cicero’s obligation thoughts and the current social reality which is people lack of obligation,the author puts forward some reasonable Suggestions about how to use the core values of Chinese socialism as guidance,to help people establish the correct values,so as to promote the development of citizen’s virtue education and cultivate the citizen’s senses of moral obligation. |
