Academic procrastination is to voluntarily delay an intended course of action despite expecting to be worse off for the delay(Steel,2007).Studies had shown that64.6% of pupils procrastination occasionally(Wang,2012).Academic procrastination entailed negative consequences for students,accompanied by lots of negative emotional expensive.The primary school stage is an important period for the development of intelligence and thought,and it is the shaping period of personalities and behaviors.Understanding pupils' academic procrastination and its related factors can provide more comprehensive references and advice for prevention and intervention in academic procrastination in the future.The self-system process model states that the external environment can influence the social adaptation of individuals by affecting their internal self-systems(Connell &Wellborn,1991).The model consists of three parts: external environment,internal self-system and social adaptation.The family is the initial environment for child's growth.Parents as the child's first teacher have an important influence on the child.Parenting styles as a constellation of attitudes toward the child that are communicated to the child,and that,taken together,create an emotional climate in which the parents' behavior is expressed(Darling & Steinberg,1993).Parenting styles have a significant predictive effort on academic procrastination.Self-Control is one of the subsystems of the internal self-system.It is significantly negatively correlated to academic procrastination.Child self-control refers to the ability of children to suppress dominant reactions and arouse disadvantages(Chen & Sang,2002).So this study speculated that self-control may play a mediating role between parenting styles and academic procrastination.Academic procrastination,Parenting styles and Self-control were measured by the General Procrastination Scale,Short-Egna Minnen av Barndoms Uppfostran and Dual-Model of Self-control Scale.This study aimed to investigate the character of academic procrastination and the relationship between academic procrastination to parenting styles and self-control among 630 pupils.In particular,this study examinedthe mediating function of self-control in the relationship between academic procrastination and parenting styles.This study used SPSS 21.0 and AMOS 20.0 to analyze variance,correlation analysis and regression analysis of date.Using hierarchical regression procedures,the main results were as follows,(1)Rural students showed higher degree of academic procrastination than urban students;Male students showed higher degree of academic procrastination than female students;Rural boys showed higher degree of academic procrastination than urban boys,no significant academic procrastination differences between rural girls and urban girls.No significant grade differences between grade five and grade six.(2)Paternal rejection,impulsive precursors,academic procrastination were positively correlated to each other;Paternal emotional warmth was positively correlated with reflective precursors;Reflective precursors was negatively correlated with paternal rejection and academic procrastination;Paternal emotional warmth was negatively correlated with impulsive precursors and academic procrastination.(3)Impulsive precursors played a partially mediating role between parental emotional warmth and academic procrastination;reflective precursors played a fully mediating role between parental emotional warmth and academic procrastination.
