Input plays an important role in language acquisition. Both domestic and foreign scholars pay attention to the fact that input frequency affects second language acquisition(SLA).Plenty of researches show that input frequency has great effect on second language acquisition.Researches based on textbooks also shows that input frequency has great effect on students' language acquisition.Although there are plenty of researches facing college or high school students, researches of input frequency effects on primary school students are rare. This paper is an empirical study based on the content of the textbook, standardized by The National English Curriculum(2011).It aims to reveal how input frequency of textbooks affects vocabulary acquisition.Follow questions will be addressed:1.How does input frequency affects students' vocabulary acquisition?2.Is the input frequency in this set of textbook reasonable or not?3.How does word occurrence space affect students' vocabulary acquisition?4.As a special case of word occurrence space, does vocabularies reoccuring in different volumes affect students' vocabulary acquisition? The methods of data base study and pencil and paper test are used to assist the investigation. The major findings are as follows: 1.The vocabulary input frequency has positive correlations with corresponding acquisition. Both high-frequency input vocabularies and mid-frequency input vocabularies are learned by more than 80% of all students. While less than half learned lowfrequency input vocabulary. The acquisition of mid-frequency input vocabulary is less stable than high-frequency input vocabulary. The acquisition gap is smaller in high-frequency input vocabularies.2.The word occurrence space affects vocabulary acquisition.Limited word occurrence space is bad for vocabulary acquisition. With similar input frequency, vocabulary with reasonable occurrence space can be better acquired than those with limited occurrence space.3.Vocabularies occurred in different volumes are learned better.Proper occurrence across volume complies with the law of memory, thus could strengthen the effect of vocabulary acquisition.4.The research shows that the new edition of PEP was properly edited. Most of the key vocabularies are high-frequency input vocabulary in this set of textbooks. Most of the key vocabularies also reoccur in other sets of volumes, and the vocabulary occurrence space is also reasonable. In conclusion, word occurrence has great influence on vocabulary acquisition. The appropriateness of the input frequency and word occurrence space will affect how well the vocabulary is acquired. But there are also other factors that affect vocabular acquisition.
