Chinese locative words are regarded as “ postposition ”,contrasted with English “ preposition ”.Though they have different locations, their functions are basically same. They are grammatical signs expressing temporal and spatial relationship. Therefore, they can be referred to as “adposition”.In the current teaching grammar exist a large number of English Prepositions. It can be divided into many categories. This paper mainly talks about the relationship of three categories.According to the post components being a zero,a noun phrase or a clause, they will be divided into three parts of speech: adverbs, prepositions and conjunctions.Chinese locative words do not differentiate into different parts of speech according to the nature of their prepositional components. After explaining the categories of Chinese locative words, this paper points out that the three-way division of English prepositions is not necessary, but it will lead to a lot of confusions from the perspective of typology. This article is divided into six parts. The first part is the introduction, including the reasons for selecting the topic, research significance, research overviews, research contents and research methods. The second part briefly introduces the connotation, definition and classification of English prepositions.Secondly,It mainly examines the situation that English prepositions can be served as adverbs and conjunctions. The contradictions between prepositions and adverbs are as follows: omit the post noun phrases, and the postpositional components are adjectives and quantity phrases. The contradictions between prepositions and conjunctions are as follows: omission of post-predicate phrase and postpositional component "V-ing".It is believed that English adverbs, prepositions and conjunctions can be classified as prepositions. The third part discusses the classification and nature of position words from syllables, syntax, semantics and other aspects, and determines the scope of modern Chinese position words. In terms of syllables, emphasis is placed on analyzing the performance of monosyllabic and bisyllabic locative words;semantic meanings are categorized into spatial, temporal, and other extended meanings, taking into account the reference points, directionality, and semantic functions of locative words. On the aspect of grammar, according to different grammatical expressions and grammaticalfeatures, the directional lexicalization is divided into orientation nouns, azimuth word formation components and azimuth postpositions; The fourth part compares the similarities and differences between the concepts of space in English and Chinese, and describes them from the perspectives of English and Chinese differences and English-Chinese coherence. They consider that the source,usage,part-of-speech processing, semantic division, and word order are different, but actually they have the same syntactic features and syntactic status. The fifth part will be explaining the differences between the “word class” and the “part of speech”.The sixth part is the conclusion that will summarize the entire article.
