Doing exercises plays an essential role in the process of English learning,which can help students strengthen their knowledge and improve their learning achievement.Making errors is inevitable while doing exercises,but errors can be valuable learning resources as long as teachers and students make full use of errors.Students in Grade 9 are in face of senior high school entrance examination,it takes students much time to memorize words,phrases and to do lots of exercises to strengthen their knowledge.Students have little time to manage their English errors,and they lack of effective strategies to manage errors,so they always repeat the same errors in exams.In order to solve these problems,the author took No.7 Middle School in Zhouzhi,Xi'an as example to study the effectiveness of error management in students' English learning.The author hoped that this study would be helpful for teachers and students.In this study,Piaget's cognitive development theory,Thorndike's trial and error theory,constructivism learning theory,and meta-cognitive theory were applied as theoretical foundation.The author chose Class 1 and Class 2 of Grade 9 in No.7 Middle School in Zhouzhi,Xi'an as Experimental Class(EC)and Control Class(CC)respectively,adopted questionnaire,interview and test to study the effectiveness of error management in junior high school students'English learning.After investigating students'present situation of error management,the author proposed two research questions.First,what is the effect of error management training on students' opinions,attitudes,actions and strategies of error management?Second,what is the effect of error management training on students' English learning achievement?After four-month experiment,the author analyzed the data of the experiment by SPSS 19.0.The results are as follows:(1)The error management training has positive effect on students' opinions,attitudes,actions and strategies of error management.(2)The error management training can improve students' English learning achievement.All in all,this study proved that error management has positive effect on junior high school students' English learning,so teachers should use error management training to improve students' English error management and learning achievement.Some pedagogical suggestions are provided based on the results of this study and the existing problems.Students themselves play a key role in developing the good habit of error management,at the same time,teachers' supervision and feedback is also indispensable in this process.Teachers should help students develop good opinions and attitudes towards errors and error management,supervise students' error management behaviors and guide them to master effective strategies to manage their errors.
