Since the communications between different countries keep flourishing in many fields,including academic research and literature,as the bridge linking people of different nations,translators are expected to take their responsibility to help expand the vision of people and to improve the communications by translating more related works for foreign readers,and as a result,more and stricter requirements have also been made for translators.So,translators need to make more efforts to improve their results not only in translating practice itself but also research results as well as even translating theories to guide more people.In China,Shakespeare is still a very popular master of literature,of whom many readers and researchers like to study the works.His works have promoted the communications not only in literature,especially plays,but also history.Hence,his works are quite worthy reading and studying.Based on a translation material for homework introduced by the supervisor,the author takes the third chapter Henry Ⅳ and the forth chapter Henry V of Shakespeare ’s English Kings as the translation task in this report.Moreover,there’s no Chinese version in the market.This book,written by Dr Peter Saccio who is Leon D.Black Professor of Shakespearean Studies and Professor of English Emeritus at Dartmouth College,mainly serves as a background reading for readers of Shakespeare’s history plays by introducing some important supplementary explanations and by correcting some historical mistakes so that the readers may know more and more clearly about both Shakespeare’s plays and British history.As this material is seen as an informative text,the author keeps faithful to the contents and style,and pursues the understandability of the target version while translating the text by applying the interpretive theory to the translation process.This translation report consists.The first part briefly introduces the background and significance of the project.The second is the introduction of the translation process.The third part is the description of the theoretical framework and the application of the interpretive theory to translation.The fourth part is the case study,in which the translation methods used are studied in specific cases.The final part is the conclusion of the report. |
