For a successful pedagogic process of cultivating qualified interpreters in China, interpreting teaching materials run an indispensable role as the material guarantee.Unfortunately, the status quo of domestic E-C interpreting materials adopted and employed are still of many defects that defy the actual interpretative practice. One of these defects is the lack of varied English accents that are commonplace in international communication since English is the dominant lingua franca all around the world.Hence, proportion of the accented speeches in domestic E-C interpreting teaching materials is required to be increased. As one of the most influential models of classification of English varieties,Braj.B.Kachru's Model of World Englishes(also referred to as the “Three Circles Model”)serves as the theoretical basis for this thesis and the empirical study herein. In this Model, accented Englishes are divided into three circles including the Inner Circle, the Outer Circle and the Expanding Circle based on the history of English dispersal and on the role English plays in each country or region.Based on the Model, the thesis aims to find out selecting criteria for accented English speeches and strategies for selection of appropriate accents in respect of the accent difficulty.Upon data collection and analysis, results are found as follows: a)for one student, different accents will exert varied difficulty degrees on him and for one accent, students with different interpreting competence will be influenced differently;b)the difficulty degrees of Australian,Japanese,South African,Indian and Greek accent show an increase in order;c)the statistical results further show a preliminary trend of increase in difficulty degrees from Englishes in Inner Circle to those in Expanding Circle.Strategies include accent identifying and phonological deviation comparing are accordingly come up with. With the findings, interpreting teachers and students are able to find direction in selecting accented materials in light of the accent difficulty from the huge audio and video resources on Internet for more targeted and thus effective teaching and learning.
