Research On Xu Gu’s Squirrel Theme Painting

Xu Gu and Ren Bonian and Wu changshuo are known as the "Three Heroes at Sea" and have become the masters of the Shanghai painting circle.From the late Qing Dynasty to the early Republic of China,they successively pushde the "Shanghai School of Painting" to a new climax.The unique artistic style of Xu Gu’s works can be described as a unique way and a family.In the history of Chinese modern art,especially in the history of flowers and birds,it occupies a pivotal position.His works of flowers and birds,especially the late-mature squirrels,have left a particularly deep impression on people."Squirrel" is not uncommon in Chinese traditional paintings.The Yuan dynasty Qian Xuan,Qing Dynasty Yun Nantian and Hua Yan,as well as modern Qi Baishi,Zhang Daqian,Ren Bonian,and Yun Feian also created squirrel themes.Xu Gu has excellent works in landscapes,flowers and birds,and figures.A large number of squirrel-themed works created by Xu Gu,with cold brushwork,color-clearing and novelty,and composition,pay attention to the situation,inadvertently creating a new idea,and can well integrate objective objects with subjective emotions.The feeling of grace and ethereal moisturizes.This article takes Xu Gu as the main research object,and takes the large number of squirrel works in the late years of Xu Gu as the core of the research.While deeply analyzing and summarizing this type of works,it combines the economic,historical and social environment and other factors and Xu Gu’s teacher-follower relationship,experience,cultivation and so on.Unscrambling Xu Gu’s feelings and attitudes in his creation,looking for the creative roots of Xu Gu’s squirrel works,and then combining his works to exlore the short,scattered and slow writing techniques,the elegant and distinctive ink color,the unique layout,and other artistic language features.Then it goes deep into the pictureque nature of the works,the style of poetry and painting as well as the unique stillness,and constructs a more perfect and comprehensive art system of squirrel subject matter.Xu Gu’s works are filled with an atmosphere that infuses life in the shape of the outside.It not only greatly enriches the painting sentiment of the sea school at that time,broadens the theme of the painting,but also injects new vitality into the aesthetic thoughts of the society at that time.It exerted a profound influence on the later Shanghai school paintings and even the entire painting field.The author hopes thatthrough the study of this article,we have some help and guidance significance for our current flower and painting creation.
