A C-E Translation Report Of Genuine Southeast Guizhou(Excerpts)

With the enhancement of China's economic strength and the improvement of its international status,the number of foreigners traveling to China has mounted year by year,and an increasing number of foreigners are studying Chinese culture.Chinese traditional mainstream culture has been in the vision of westerners for a long time.In recent years,Western China's minorities culture has attracted the attention and research of many foreigners.The translation text selected by the translator is mainly about the magnificent Miao and Dong culture and the unique local customs in southeast Guizhou,China.With the development of tourism in this area,numerous overseas tourists come to Qiandongnan to experience the original ecological culture.The culture of Miao and Dong ethnic groups can't wait to be translated and then publicized overseas.In history,Miao people and Dong people in southeast Guizhou couldn't contact much with the outside world because of remoteness,mountain barrier and traffic inconvenience.Consequently,they formed their own peculiar customs,architectural style,religion,language,music and social rules.It is not easy to definitely express these culture-loaded words which are peculiar to the Miao and Dong people in Chinese.Thus it is even more difficult to find corresponding words in English to express these things,which brings some difficulties to this Chinese-English translation.In the original text,there are lots of culture-loaded words which are unique to the Miao and Dong ethnic groups.Therefore,the author mainly uses foreignizing translation to guide the translation practice,expecting to translate the meaning of these culture loaded words in a complete and accurate way.In dealing with the cultural phenomena in the original text,the author adopts the foreignizing translation to retain and convey the unique cultural features in the original text.In terms of language expression,the author tries to make the translation conform to native English.On the syntactic and textual level,this translation report discusses the translation skills of Chinese sentences,the translation of Dong chorus lyrics and the cohesion of texts.The translation report consists of four parts.In the first chapter,the author gives an account of the background,significance of this translation and linguistic features of the original text,and briefly introduces the guiding theory used in this translation.The second chapter mainly introduces the process of the translation practice.In the third chapter,the author analyzes the difficulties of the translation from the aspects of culture loaded words,sentence cohesion,text cohesion and lyric translation,and puts forward specific solutions.The fourth chapter is a summary of the author's gains and shortcomings from the translation practice.The main aim of translating"Genuine Southeast Guizhou" is to let foreign tourists know the charm of this original ecological culture,and promote international exchange and spreading of this excellent ethnic culture.The second purpose is to improve the writer's translation ability,and provide basis for the writer's later translation of Miao and Dong culture.The third aim is to lay the foundation for the writer's comparative study of Miao and Dong culture and other cultures in the future.
