A Study Of The Translation Process Of Literature Works From The Perspective Of Dialogue Theory

Reviewing the history of translation studies,the author finds that the historical evolution of the four research paradigms of “centered” theories(including“author-centered”,“text-centered”,“reader-centered”,and “translator-centered”)have occupied half of the history of translation studies.The evolution also profoundly reveals the confrontation and replacement of research paradigms.No matter which kind of “centered” theory,they focus on narrow individual subjectivity,ignoring the individual's social attributes and the role of other subjects,so they are once stranded in logocentrism.As we all know,translation can never be carried out in the vacuum set by any subject.The associations between the subjects are not statically opposed,but they influence each other and are dynamically complementary in the dialogue.Dialogue theory,the essence of Bakhtin's thought,contrary to “X-centered”theories,focuses on the “other”,the equal status of participants and the immutability and unfinalizability of dialogues.Translation,as a kind of social behavior,can be understood as a multi-interactive dialogue that the author,translator,reader,sponsor,patron,critic participate in.These dialogues run through the whole translation process.In recent years,scholars at home and abroad have made a relatively in-depth study on Eileen Chang's literary works and her translation works.However,most of them still emphasize on the comparative analysis of source texts and their translated versions,and few scholars study it in the perspective of translation process.Because of her dual identities of author and translator,it is of great significance to the study Eileen Chang's translation process.Eileen Chang's novella,Jin Suo Ji,has been widely acclaimed since its publication in Shanghai and in the Mainland.However,its self-translated versions have repeatedly run into a brick wall and attracted little attention in foreign countries.Based on the previous study on translation process,this paper redefines the translation process.From the perspective of dialogue theory,the author takes Eileen Chang's self-translated The Golden Cangue as an example to analyze the dialogues that occur in different translation processes,and to reveal impact and guiding role of these dialogues on different translation processes,hoping to give an explanation of Eileen Chang's translation strategies and of the reason why The Golden Cangue suffered frustration in the U.S..
