User-Centered Translation is a new academic book on translation model published by Routledge Press in 2015,and co-authored by three Finnish scholars:Tytti Suojanen,Kaisa Koskinen and Tina Tuominen. The book contains ten chapters, systematically expounding the conceptual model, the tool method and the evaluation ways of the "user-centered" translation model,as well as the application of the model in the translation industry. The material of this translation practice is selected from chapter 4 to chapter 6 of the book. The fourth chapter mainly introduces the four core concepts that affect the reading process:legibility, readability, comprehensibility and accessibility;the fifth chapter mainly introduces the construction of mental models before the starting of the translation process;the sixth chapter mainly introduces the assessment methods of usability:heuristic evaluation or expert evaluation. This book puts the actual user at the core of translation process and advocates the "user-centered"translation model to improve the usability of translation, thus breaking through the traditional translation research category. It combines theory with practice, which has more practical significance. The original text of the task is an academic translation work, which belongs to informative text. Therefore, the author selects the text typology of the well-known British translation theorist Peter Newmark and the corresponding two translation strategies of semantic translation and communicative translation as the theoretical guidance of this translation practice. The core of Newmark's translation theory is semantic translation and communicative translation, which is the most important and unique part of his translation theory.Based on this, the author examines the translation process and reflects on the quality of the translation.According to the text function,Peter Newmark divided texts into informative text, expressive text, and vocative text.and pointed out that semantic translation is applicable to expressive text, while communicative translation is applicable to informative text and vocative text. However,Newmark also pointed out that a text rarely has only one function. Therefore, the author combines the two in the actual translation process, and adopts more specific translation methods to solve problems encountered in the translation process under the guidance of both of them. This report consists of five chapters. The first chapter is translation task description, mainly including the background, significance and features and the other of the task. The second chapter is translation process description, and the whole process is described from the three stages of pre-translation,while-translation and post-translation.The third chapter is an introduction to Newmark's translation theory. It mainly introduces Newmark's text typology and two translation strategies he proposed:semantic translation and communicative translation, and its applicability to this translation practice. The fourth chapter is case analysis, which is also the main part of the report. The author will select typical cases and expound the guidance of Newmark's translation theory to this translation practice in this chapter. The fifth chapter is the conclusion of the report, and the limitations and the outlook for future translation practice are also pointed out in this chapter. This translation practice task makes the author realize that as a student majoring in translation, not only excellent professional knowledge and certain translation theories and techniques are needed, but also the rigorous and earnest attitude. The author hopes that through this translation practice, the translation ability can be improved.
