In recent years,China is going towards the world. For example,Chairman Xi Jinping visited a large number of countries in the world to strengthen the contacts and communication with these countries;China played a proactive role in implementing the “The 21 st Century Economic Belt and Maritime Silk Road Initiative”;the G20 Hangzhou Summit was held successfully in 2016 and 2017 Bricks Summit has a wonderful end in Xiamen. All these activities marked the rise of the China's position in its politics, economy, culture and diplomacy. Therefore, translation is an essential task especially translating the publicity materials.Because it is a bridge to facilitate the communication between China and the world and it is also in favor of China's international status.Chairman Xi Jinping has made great achievements in his work and diplomacy for these years.During this period,he also made some speeches, talks and answered questions in many countries in the world, all of which were sorted out and collected in Xi Jinping: The Governance of China.18 topics were contained in this book illustrating the methods of governing and running the country.Since the ancient,China is a nation that is willing to sharing with others. Therefore, the book was translated and introduced in eight languages by the Foreign Languages Press to the world.Statistically,it is the political document with the largest circulation abroad.Because people are impressed by the Chairman Xi Jinping's governance philosophy and it represents the highest level of China's foreign publicity translation. So it is worth researching.Information theory is an applied mathematics subject which uses the methods of probability theory and mathematical statistics to study information, information entropy, communication system, data transmission, cryptography, data compression and so on.Redundancy is an integral part of this theory and it is the redundant information that resist the “noise”(that refers to the disturbing factors). The theory was initially put forward by Claude E.Shannon,a mathematician in American bellinstitute. With the development of the interdisciplinary, the theory was applied in the study of translation theory and practice. It gives guidance and impetus to the development of Translation, especially the translation of foreign publicity materials. There is much redundant information in the foreign publicity materials, such as the repletion of the words, formalities and phatic words.Different translation strategies are adopted in the course of translation and are measured by different standards. The redundancy in the Information theory provides theory guidance for the redundancy in translation. The author of this thesis analyzes the English version of Xi Jinping: The Governance of China from the perspective of the redundancy. After reading the book carefully, the author searched and collected amount of examples, then analyzed and made a comparison the difference between Chinese and English to find the redundant information. In the process of translating, various translation methods and strategies are applied to guarantee the accurate transmission of the information.Through the research, the author summarizes the methods and strategies adopted by the translator to deal with the redundant phenomena in the process of translation: when the source text appeared over-redundancy,the translator adopted the methods of deletion and abridgment;while the original text was under-redundancy,the translator adopted the approach of amplification and paraphrase during the translation.By adopting these methods, the translator wants to ensure the information of source text is delivered accurately in translation.
