This is a report on the translation of the first two chapters of Technology and Inequality: Concentrated Wealth in a Digital World,a monograph written by Jonathan P.Allen,a pioneering researcher and educator in the field of internet business, specializing in open technologies and the digital transformation of organizations and society. This academic monograph consists of 9 separated but coherent papers. The first two chapters selected as the source text mainly introduce what role digital technology plays in inequality, and how digital technology affects the concentration of wealth. As there is no such kind of book covering comprehensive and systematic knowledge of relationship between technology and economic inequality in China, the translation of the source text is of great importance and would be enlightening one for researchers, policy makers and the public in China.Reiss’ s theory of Text Typology is taken as the guiding theory to smooth the way in translating.According to Text Typology theory, the source text is informative one. Therefore, translating a monograph should break the limits of the source text in structure and try to render readers the exact information in the target language in the same systematic and coherent way as the source text providing the original readers. As to the translation of polysemy, diction and extension will be adopted. As to the translation of inanimate subject sentences, division and conversion will be used. Finally, the experience gained and problems to be solved are summarized.
