With the continuous further development of new curriculum reform in China,primary English teaching in our country is receiving more attention."English Curriculum Standards(2011)" established by Ministry of Education propose that primary English teaching goals are to arouse students' interest in learning English,to cultivate positive attitudes towards English and to build up confidence in learning English.Besides,it is mentioned from time to time that primary school students should "be able to understand simple stories through listening and reading".Therefore,it is important for primary school students to learn English through stories.Currently,the method which combines stories with teaching in primary English teaching in China is mainly Situational Teaching Method.This method consists of many situations,but they are independent and unrelated to each other.Compared to Situational Teaching Method,Story Theme Teaching Method pays more attention to integrity,coherence and connection of the teaching process.Story Theme Teaching Method strings different teaching parts with a main line,the theme story.This method also contains many sub-situations,but they are linked to each other and help move forward the teaching process.The author carries out the research on Story Theme Teaching Method in primary English teaching through theories and practice.In theoretical aspect,the author summarizes the characteristics and principles of the teaching method by collecting,arranging and analyzing works from China and abroad as well as studying some outstanding lessons where Story Theme Teaching Method is applied.In practical aspect,the author did a one-term-long Story Theme Teaching experiment on students in Classes 1 and 2,Grade 6 in Primary School Attached to Sun Yat-sen University and proved that Story Theme Teaching Method has a positive impact on students' learning interest and school record.Based on the theoretical and practical research,the author put forward some advice on Story Theme Teaching Method at the end of the paper,in the hope of contributing efforts to the development and improvement of Story Theme Teaching Method.
