A Report On The C-E Translation Of Picture Book Stories About Danny

The thesis based on the translation material called Stories about Danny that the author translated from 2016 to 2017 as translation practice.Stories about Danny is a series of picture books designed by a domestic English training institute and will be published for kids to learn English.All stories are about a boy named Danny,the main character.Combined with pictures and words,each story has an independent topic.Some are about daily life,some are explaining a scientific theory and some are introducing a rule to be obeyed.Aiming at kids with comparatively low language level and limited studying ability,the language of Stories about Danny is simple and the plot is easy to comprehend.Integrated with picture,text and sound,picture book is full of sense of rhyme.After being introduced to China,it has been popular among parents and kids.As the market of picture book is booming,the combination of the enjoyment of reading and studying of English contributes to the development of Picture book translating.However,the quality of translated works varies.Some translators assume it is such an easy task that little attention is drew to diction,grammar and logics.As a result,quite a few are not to the standard.The thesis will introduce the difficulties during the translation process,the translation standard and translation methods adopted.Based on the chosen cases,the language features will be analyzed from lexical level,syntactic level and textual level.Besides,the translation techniques of addition,omission,conversion and division applied in the work will be discussed,in the hope of providing some reference to the C-E picture book translation.
