The translation material is an excerpt of Ordinary Families,Special Children —Chapter 3 of Section 1.This book,written by Milton and Rosalyn,introduces the conception,the intervention approaches and families of children with disabilities.From this book,the reader will have a deep understanding of children with disabilities and their families.The book emphasizes this ordinariness in order to suggest the essential similarity of all families,and provides the specific methods.Chapter 3 mainly introduces the effects of social and cultural diversity on childhood disability and the attitude of different countries and nations to the disabled children.This report mainly consists of three parts: the task description,the main theoretical basis and translation process.The first part introduces the source of the material,the writer,the book,the excerpt chapter and the translation objectives.In the second part,the translator refers to the theories that are applied to this practice,namely,Reiss' s text typology theory and the theory of contrastive linguistics.The translation process includes the preparation before translating,the case analysis,the problems in translating and the summary of the translation,among which the case analysis and the problems in translating are the core of this report.The translator selected 9 examples from the text to illustrate how to apply the translation strategies under the guidance of the theory of contrastive linguistics,such as conversion and amplification,making the translation be faithful and smooth.The translator also analyses the problems and solutions in the translation process through 15 examples,such as the translation of adverbs,the passive voice and the attributive clause.There are still some problems to be solved in this translation practice,the translation of some documents and materials cited in the text is rigid.Some translation are still influenced by English sentence patterns,and cannot be expressed to the core in Chinese.
