Food security is an important international livelihood issue which is increasinglyattracting attention of the world. In recent years, food insecurity appears frequently inthe international level, seriously affecting the quality of people’s life and the stabilityof society. In2012, the National Academies Press of the USA published ASustainability Challenge: Food Security for All, recording the situation of global foodsecurity and the challenges of global food system and posing solutions for increasingglobal food supplies.The original text mentioned above includes two parts. The first part and half ofChapter1of the second part is selected as the translation text. After the translationtask was finished, the translation report began to be composed. The translation reportincludes4chapters: translation task, translation theory, translation methods andtranslation summary. The first chapter states the reasons for selecting A SustainabilityChallenge: Food Security for All as the translation text and for confirming theselected part of the book as the translation task. Then it introduces the structure andthe contents of the book as well as the preparation and efforts for finishing thetranslation task. The second chapter studies the initial theory of the Functionalist–Reiss’s text typology theory, and analyzes the application of the theory by listing thecases of the translation practice. The third chapter, guided by Reiss’s text typologytheory, illustrates the translation methods for lexical and syntactic translation. Finally,the fourth part summarizes the translation practice, presents the leftover problems andexpresses the perception after finishing the translation task.The translation task, based on the text A Sustainability Challenge: Food Securityfor All and guided by Reiss’s text typology theory, applies series of lexical andsyntactic translation methods. The translation task aims to arouse people’s attentionfor food insecurity and encourage them to explore solutions for solving foodinsecurity.
