| The early Tang dynasty inherited a valuable literary legacy from previous generation,among which was what we now call “the Parallel prose”.In the Six Dynasties,the Parallel prose achieved its full prosperity.In this period,on the basis of the Pian-ou style,the Parallel prose has fully developed its characteristics of rhetoric,episodes,and rhythm etc.For this literary legacy,Tang Taizong literary group,as the first generation of critics,did not simply inherit or abandon,but conducted rational analysis and evaluation from different perspectives.In rethinking the style of the predecessors’ literary style,they not only focused their criticism on the “Yinsheng”at the end of the Liang dynasty,but also displayed an emphasis on the belles-lettres literary language since the Six Dynasties.When reflecting on the essay function and the relation between Wen and Zhi,they also can take into account the function of lyricism of the articles as well as the politics and education,so can the content and form of the article,their criticism led to the further development of Parallel prose in the early Tang Dynasty.The background of the “Four Great Literary Eminences of Early Tang Dynasty” as they entered the literary world was “the variation of Long shuo literary”.On the one hand,they criticized the literary world that had long been plagued by abuses with a blistering attack,and displayed a strong sense of innovation.On the other hand,they described the aesthetic ideals of the parallel prose of the Tang dynasty of the new era with their unique parallel prose theory and practice.Therefore,the development of the parallel prose has been the ultimate in the period of the “Four Great Literary Eminences of Early Tang Dynasty”which is like the most glorious afterglow of the sunset.Chen Zi’ang’s criticism and practice in the Parallel prose are crucial in determining the Parallel prose’s development process.Following the "Four Great Literary Eminences of Early Tang Dynasty",he further demanded that the ills of the article should be eliminated.He advocated that the article should contain "Tao".Therefore,he was considered by the Tang Dynasty archaic activists as a pioneer.As the last generation of critics in the early Tang Dynasty,Chen Zi’ang’s criticism shows a clear significance at the same time of the “repetition”,which has already changed the flow of parallel prose’s development.From thebeginning of the Tang Dynasty which was 100 years before,in order to summarize the outline of the criticism during this period,this article selects individual or group who is typically in criticsm of parallel prose.The article will mainly discuss the following three aspects:The first part discusses Tang Taizong literary group’s parallel prose criticsm.Parallel prose criticism in this period was mainly reflected in the reflection on the previous generations’ parallel proses,including both the reflection on literary style and literature function and the reflection on the relation between Wen and Zhi.The second part of the article discusses the criticism of the "Four Great Literary Eminences of Early Tang Dynasty" in parallel prose.First introduce the background of the criticism of the four eminences,that is,“the variation of Long shuo literary”.And then divide the "Four Great Literary Eminences of Early Tang Dynasty" into two generations of “Lu Luo” and “Wang Yang” to expound their unique characteristics in parallel prose criticism.The third part discusses Chen Zi’ang’s criticism of the Parallel prose.In Chen Zi’ang’s criticism,the "repetition" and "innovation" exist at the same time,and its "fu" is actually the result of the great accumulation of parallel prose in the early Tang Dynasty,its "change" reveals the precursor of the transformation of parallel prose. |
