Internet addiction is now one of the most common psychological problems of middle school students, especially in our country, which can cause serious harm to their physical and mental health function.Studies have reported that these Internet addiction students usually lost their self-worth first and subsequently missed their self-esteem,they then full into abnormal conditions of lower learning motivation and indifference to all around, whose life finally be compensated by Internet addiction behavior. The core goal of Satir's psychotherapy is to help middle school students regain their sense of self-worth as well as self-esteem.It helps these students regain their self-esteem and self-worth as well as their leaving and learning motivation, which may help them to get rid of Internet addiction ultimately. In this study, aiming to elevate students' self-esteem,we utilized Satir model group guidance to intervene these internet addiction students. This study consists of two parts Study ? is a correlation study.A demographic survey,a self-respect scale, and an Internet addiction scale were utilized to analyze the results of a total 750 students from a middle school in Wuhan(including junior and second grade,as well as senior and second grade),to determine the relationship between Internet addiction and self-esteem of these students.Study ? is a intervention research.Firstly,a feasible group counseling scheme for improving self-esteem according to the Satir model was protocoled. Then, the scheme was applied to practice, and the therapeutic effects were examined by comparing the results of pretest and posttest and the control group. The feasibility and effectiveness of such scheme under Satir were also investigated during experiment period.Finally,12 subjects were randomly divided to each group,a total 7 groups counseling for 90 minutes each time were conducted to the intervention group. Results of two groups(before-and-after the experiment intervention)were statistically analyzed and compared to each other. The results of study ? showed that there was a significant correlation between Internet addiction and self-esteem(including self-esteem score,self-affirmation factor,self-denial factor).Among which, the total score of self-esteem,self-affirming factor negatively correlated to Internet addiction while self-denial factor positively correlated. The higher the score of self-esteem and self-affirmation,the lower the score of Internet addiction. The higher the self-denial factor, the higher the Internet addiction score. That is to say,the higher the self-esteem and self-affirmation,the lower the Internet addiction;the higher the self-denial,the higher the Internet addiction. The pretest results of study II showed a comparable baseline between experimental and the control group. However, the posttest results demonstrated significant differences between the experimental group and the control group, the self-esteem level of the former group was significantly higher than that of the latter, while the Internet addiction scores were reversed between two groups.Combined with these pretest and posttest results,we found that the self-esteem of experimental group members significant improved after Satir model group guidance, but Internet addiction degree markedly decreased, while no similar changes were observed in the control group.Conclusions:1)There is a negative correlation between self-esteem and internet addiction among middle school students. The higher the level of self-esteem,the lower:the level of Internet addiction;2)Self-esteem level of middle school students generally has a negative predictive effect on internet addiction.self-esteem,self-affirming factor are negative predictors for internet addiction, while self-denial factor is positive predictors for internet addiction;3)Satir model group guidance can significantly improve the self-esteem level of Internet addiction middle students;4)and further effectivelyalleviate their Internet addiction.
