With unique literary significance and aesthetic value, the language, emotion and theme of children's literature are obviously artistic. The dynamic rhythm, exquisite emotional features and abundant images are vivid and expressive.Children's literary works of Cao Wenxuan-the 2016 Hans Christian Andersen Award winner-are characterized by the elegant language, profound meaning, sufferings and warmth.Cao Wenxuan's classical work Qingtong Kuihua shapes the strong personality of characters in all those sufferings by distinctively describing the contradiction and interplay of purity, innocence and hardship. The English version of this book,Bronze and Sunflower, was translated by Helen Wang and published by Walker Books, and has gained extensive attention in the English world.Translation is an aesthetic practice,as the theoretical researches of translation at home and abroad all have their aesthetic origins. The theory of translation aesthetics put forward by Liu Miqing is the combination of Chinese translation theories and aesthetic thoughts, the cognition of translation practice from the perspective of aesthetics and the study on aesthetic standards and effect of translation combined with aesthetic theories.Aesthetic representation in literary translation fully reflects the nature of language, culture and beauty. The translation of children's literature is also the aesthetic activity involving the translator's aesthetic perception, the integration of aesthetic feelings, the transformation of aesthetic images and the representation of aesthetic characteristics. From the perspective of translation aesthetics, the thesis analyzes the aesthetic representation effect in translation with the method of contrastive analysis and quantitative analysis, based on the case study of Qingtong Kuihua and its English version. The study reveals:firstly,Helen Wang has adopted primarily the method of literal translation, with the supplement of creative translation and deletion, which is basically faithful to the source text when dealing with the aesthetic factors in the formal system including rhyme, word, and syntax, while she has made great changes when dealing with discourse;secondly, the translator has mainly adopted the method of literal translation when dealing with the aesthetic factors in the non-formal system, and the methods of explanatory translation and transliteration she has adopted when dealing with culture cause yet the loss of goodness in translation for the reason that the aesthetic subject is restricted by the language and cultural differences.Furthermore, based on the case study, the thesis puts forward two translation principles, imitating(the meaning, form, style and the overall aesthetic effect)and compensating(for the loss of culture and aesthetics),that translators can refer to in the practical C-E translation of children's literature to achieve the best aesthetic representation effect by reserving or reproducing the aesthetic effect of "meaning" and "art".
