Children’s literature is an integral part of the literary system.Children’s literature is important for the growth of children and the shaping of their values.Translation of children’s literature can be traced back to the late Qing dynasty,was valued during the May Fourth Movement and developed rapidly after the reform and opening up.While the practice of children’s literature and children’s literature translation has received widespread attention,the theoretical structure and support related to children’s literature translation has often been neglected.This report summarizes and analyses the aesthetic representation in translating children’s literature,and then draws out strategies with the English The Mulberry Tree as the source text.In the process of translation,the author finds that the greatest difficulty in translating children’s literature lies in how to use language that matches children’s cognitive level and life experience to represent the aesthetic style of the source text in translation.Based on this,the author analyses the aesthetic representation in translation from the formal and non-formal systems respectively,based on Liu Miqing’s theory of translation aesthetics in which he put forward the definition and relevant classification of translation aesthetic representation.The difficulties in aesthetic representation in formal system are mainly noted in the sound,lexis,syntax,and rhetorical devices,while the difficulties in aesthetic representation in the non-formal system are demonstrated in culture and emotion.In order to solve these difficulties,the author strictly follows the four steps of aesthetic representation in the translation process,namely comprehension,transformation,improvement and representation,and uses the methods of aesthetic representation proposed by the theory including imitation and recasting,to achieve the aesthetic representation in the translation.
