A Report On E-C Translation Of Facility Agreement

This is a report on the E-C translation of Facility Agreement,a task entrusted to the author during her internship in Shanghai Lawtone Translation Co.,Ltd.The agreement includes definition clauses,and covers the rights and obligations of parties involved and various conditions including prepayment.This agreement features professional content and contains a number of legal terms and long and complex sentences,posing great challenges to the author.The client requires that the translation should be faithful,accurate and smooth with professional words.This report consists of five chapters.The first chapter is task description,introducing the background of the task and the client's requirements.The second chapter elaborates on the translation process,including preparations in the pre-translation,work during the translation and proofreading in the post-translation.The third chapter introduces the theoretical foundation of this report.The fourth chapter is an analysis of the agreement from the perspectives of lexis,syntax,and discourse.The fifth chapter is case analysis.Based on features of the agreement,the author analyzes practical cases and summarizes corresponding translation methods.The final chapter makes a summary of the author's experience gained from the translation task.Case analysis in the fifth chapter serves as the core of this report.The author summarizes the following translation methods and skills with practical translation cases.Legal pairs are translated with equivalents.Formal words are chosen to translate legal words.Literal translation is adopted in rendering vague words.Long and complex sentences are split to cater to the target readers.Sentence orders are adjusted to ensure the translation's readability.When it comes to the discourse,the author makes the implicit cohesion of the source text explicit in the target text.Regarding the fixed structures of the source text,the author maintains such structures in the target text.The author hopes that the above translation methods can shed light on translation of legal texts.
