The former studies on flood happening in the cities of Ming and Qing Dynasties were often from the perspective of disaster history, with little attention paid to the difference between the urban and rural areas and little importance attached to the cities. Those studies from the perspective of city history focused most on metropolises, with little importance attached to regular cities, and the corresponding linear study on disasters were more common. Therefore, based on restoring the flood crisis of cities, this thesis discusses the flood crisis from multiple perspectives, presents the historical scenes to experience different phenomena caused by the flood, and scrutinizes the flood crisis of cities from the perspectives of social history and environmental history. In China,North China Plain had been a region struck frequently and seriously by flood since the Ming Dynasty. The cities with serious flood crisis in both Hutuo and Fuyang River Basin abounded. The watercourses of the rivers in Hutuo and Fuyang River Basin shifted dramatically, which gave rise to frequent flood in cities.During the social practices of striving to control flood, people accumulated much valuable experience, which is worth learning. And when dealing with the disaster, the masses gradually got used to the waterish environment in the cities shaped by flood. The governance and development of Jizhou Lake integrated into people's production and life.In fact,“the migration of the whole Shenzhou City owing to flood ”,reflected rich and plural social phenomena. And this was really a big event happening in the regional society. It took several years to build the new Shenzhou City, which could be credited to the endeavors of both the state and the masses.Located in North China Plain, the region around Yongnian City had complicated and diverse micromorphologies.During Ming and Qing Dynasties, the waterish environment of this region interacted with the local society in plural ways, shaping rich water landscape around the city. The intellectual group either described or exalted suchlandscape by poems and articles.Their cognition towards the landscape became an important means for people nowadays to review the plural interaction between the local society and the waterish environment in Yongnian City.
