Discussion On The Expansion From "Suiyu Collection" By Xu Bing To The Printmaking Language And Artistic Concept

As a famous artist and printmaker in China,Xu Bing enjoys a worldwide reputation in the circle of art.His earliest influential works in the circle of art were the woodcut and prints of palm size from 1978 to 1985 when he was at China Central Academy Of Fine Arts.There were more than100 prints and all of them were collected in “Suiyu Collection”.The subjects of these works are mostly natural and humane scenery in rural areas,which have rich meaning and expression with beautiful and profound implied message.Moreover,the engraving skill is superb and the total number of works is high.Xu Bing fully displays his artistic thoughts,artistic accomplishments and artistic aesthetics in these works,which has attracted the attention and love of the public.At the same time,it is also an outstanding contribution to the development of printmaking.“Suiyu Collection” is an early work in Xu Bing’s artistic creation,and it is also a representative of his works in early 80 s.This article is mainly divided into four parts: The first chapter is a summary of the woodcut prints of this batch,the history,the social context of their formation,and the state of art in China in 70 s and 80 s.The second chapter,by analyzing the embodiment of the times and nationality of the local elements and traditional cultural symbols in the works,draws the artistic style and characteristics of Xu Bing’s works from the aspects of aesthetics and philosophy.The third chapter explores the origin of the artistic creation concept of Xu Bing’s works and the artists who have an important influence on his art.The fourth chapter summarizes the artistic value of Xu Bing’s printmaking works in his early stage.Through the analysis of his later works,we can find the influence of the language of the early print art and the thought of literature and art on the later works.In addition,Xu Bing’s art creation practice can be regarded as a good learning reference for the development of the art world in the current situation,which has a positive inspiration for contemporary art.
