This report is a case study of the C-E translation of an excerpt from a short story called Jixiang Ruyi by a Chinese native writer Guo Wenbin.In the source text,the author adopts a great number of words and sentences with Chinese traditional culture and local features to describe the daily life of the people who lived in the rural area of northwest China at that age.As there are many dialects,rhetoric devices and idioms appearing in the source text,the translator should not only accurately convey the information of source text to the target reader but also adopt appropriate translation strategies to reproduce the original artistic effects.Under the guidance of Eco-translatology,the author of this report analyzed the translation process and translated version from the perspective of selective adaptation and adaptive selection,and respectively from linguistic,cultural and communicative dimension illustrated the main translating strategies and methods adopted by the translator during the adaptive selection phase and emphatically analyzed the translation of dialects,idioms,folk rhymes and Chinese traditional cultural ideology appears in source text as well as how to faithfully reproduce the content,style and artistic value of the fiction based on Eco-translatology.Besides,this report also proved the great influence and theoretical guiding function of Eco-translatology for the translator during the phases of adaptation and selection,meanwhile it also provided an example to prove the applicability of Eco-translatology in the translation of Chinese literary works.
