Application Of Taoist Aesthetics In Contemporary Book Design

Combining book design with Taoist aesthetics,taking The Most Beautiful Book of China for example and referring to famous aestheticians Chinese Li Zehou and Zong Baihua's aesthetics thought,this thesis explores the aesthetics principles in contemporary book design.Based on the methods such as literature induction and case study,this thesis concludes that:1.Overview of aesthetic views of Laozi and Zhuangzi in Taoist School.2.How the concept of harmony between human and nature is reflected in books,illustration,format and binding.3.The application and inheritance of Taoist aesthetic thought in book design should lie in: mutual penetration between the concepts in Taoist aesthetic thought like inaction thought of nature,knowing and observing all but stay obscure,manifesting plainness and embracing simplicity,the strongest thing in the world is softness,harmony and the aesthetic principles such as the beauty of nature,the beauty of blank-leaving,the beauty of simpleness,the beauty of softness and the beauty of artistic conception.4.The future trends of book design will be towards nationalization,emotion,integration.Moreover,through the above theoretical research,I combine Taoist aesthetic principles with my graduation design so as to make book design works which confirm to Taoist though and have a unique oriental charm.Although there are a wide variety of books in market,few book designs can catch people's eyes and satisfy the readers' aesthetic needs.Therefore,the author thinks that it is necessary to study further by combining Taoist aesthetics with contemporary book design.
