This is a translation report on Chapter ten to Chapter twelve of Mongolian Shamanism. This book mainly introduces the history of Mongolian Shamanism, world conception of Mongolian Shamanism and the religious rituals of Mongolian Shamanism. From Chapter Ten to Chapter Twelve, the three chapters focus on the introduction of the belief in “three souls”,which is not only the main tenet of Mongolian Shamanism, but the core concept of the religious rituals of Mongolian Shamanism? Shamanism, which is the primitive religion of ancient Mongolians, belongs to religious realm. So it is very necessary to collect a large number of parallel texts so that professional terms and expressions can get closer to the original language. At present, there is a paucity of the relevant Chinese literatures about Mongolian Shamanism, while English literatures of the topic at home and abroad are even less. Therefore,it is absolutely essential to keep gaining insight into Mongolian Shamanism as well as knowing the belief in “three souls”.In addition, the research of the belief in “three souls” has great exploration value for eliminating superstition and keeping harmonious social development, which is also beneficial to help people understand Shaman culture thoroughly. So this is why the translator chose chapter ten to chapter twelve of the book as the translation material. In this translation report, this translator summarized difficulties at lexical level and syntactic level.Difficulties at the lexical level include proper nouns, polysemous words and part of speech.Due to large differences in culture and expressions between China and the West,it seems difficult to achieve complete equivalence in translating proper nouns.Difficulties at the syntactic level contain attributive clauses, adverbial clauses and passive sentences. In this report, the translator mainly introduces the corresponding translation methods at lexical level and syntactic level by means of tables, examples and comparison. In a word,it is of great practical significance to study the belief in “three souls” of Mongolian Shamanism, making readers understand the core concept of Mongolian Shamanism by means of case analysis in the report.Above all,the text style of the Mongolian Shamanism is conveyed with an objective attitude and an open mind.At the same time, the translator's translation methods and techniques are improved significantly in the process of translation.
