An Analysis Of E-C Translation Of Mobile News Headlines From The Prospective Of The Skopos Theory

With the popularization of Internet and mobile communication technology,mobile news has obtained people's attention and recognition.According to the report on the imedia.cn,87%of mobile users get real-time news reports through mobile news apps^[1],hence the translation of mobile news is highly valued by the scholars.However,most scholars study mobile news from the perspective of media science,and few of them apply the Skopos Theory to the translation of mobile news.Therefore,there is still a lot of research space in the field of mobile news translation.This thesis mainly investigates the E-C translation of mobile news headlines from the prospective of the Skopos Theory so as to promote the spread of mobile news messages and satisfy readers'needs.From the prospective of the Skopos Theory,this thesis collects and analyzes 500 pieces of BBC mobile news headlines with both qualitative and quantitative methods,then making a case analysis of 60 examples in order to investigate the translation strategies of mobile news headlines,and aiming to find out the appropriate translation strategies and achieve the purpose of translation.First,this thesis introduces the background of the research,the objectives and significance of the research,and the research question.Second,this thesis makes an overview of the previous studies on news translation and mobile news translation and points out their contributions and shortcomings as well.Third the thesis introduces the definition of the Skopos Theory,the development of the Skopos Theory,the three rules of the Skopos Theory?purpose principle,coherence principle,loyalty principle?and the translation strategies from the prospective of the Skopos Theory.Fourth,the thesis introduces the methodology of the research,including research data,research procedure and results.Then,the thesis investigates the translation strategies of mobile news headlines from the prospective of the Skopos Theory.At last,the thesis points out that the translator should adopts addition,variation translation,recreation,division,shift,literal translation,and transliteration in the E-C translation of mobile news headlines so that the purpose of messages dissemination can be achieved.
