Biography is a kind of common literary genre,which reproduces the life experiences and deeds of the protagonists.And it is very influential for readers.With the development of economic and cultural globalization,the translation of biographies of famous people in the West is playing an increasingly important role in cultural exchange between China and foreign countries.Therefore,the translator chooses this biographical text The Boy's Life of Edison as source text in translation practice.This is a report on the English-Chinese translation of The Boy's Life of Edison.And the first four chapters of this book are chosen as source text.This report introduces the basic information related to source text and gives a brief analysis of its linguistic characteristics.Besides,it expatiates theoretical knowledge applied in translation and briefly describes the translation progress from three aspects,including preparation before translation,translation process and proof-reading.Moreover,the main part of this report discusses the guiding significance of the three rules of skopos theory in practical translation.Meanwhile,different translation techniques are classified and summarized in this part,including omission,conversion,amplification,combination,restructuring and division.Finally,there is a detailed conclusion of the whole translation process,including the author's gains from this translation practice.Through this translation practice,the author is deeply aware that profound language skills and the ability to apply theoretical knowledge appropriately are very essential for a good translator.In addition,the author has formed a more explicit understanding of the language features and translation techniques of biographical text.
