English reading is a good way for students to absorb information and knowledge.In recent years,in spite of the great achievements made in the study of English reading,there still remain many problems,such as the single teaching method,reasonable curriculum,out-of-date teaching material and insufficient amount of information.To that end,the study on module teaching is of great significance to the development of English reading teaching in high school.This thesis focuses on breaking the traditional textbook-oriented reading teaching mode to re-construct English reading teaching from two dimensions as in teaching content and instruction form.From the dimension of teaching content,the reading module teaching refers to teaching reading materials of same theme and similar structure in a certain period of time and it is advisable to make supplement,deletion,adaption or reconstruction of the content according to the teaching objectives.From the dimension of instruction form,reading module teaching is to grasp the discourse structure in reading,understand the discourse background and pool the vocabularies.It gives students guidance to have a basic acknowledgment of reading materials of the same theme.By doing so,it can help students accumulate certain vocabularies,cultural information and reading strategies in future reading.This study aims to shed some lights on the reading part by means of breaking down the module teaching steps based on the examples from the Advance with English in order to test the feasibility and result of module teaching method.Before and after the implementation,through the means of documentary,questionnaires,interviews and case analysis and experimental methods,the feasibility of module teaching method applied to high school English reading teaching is analyzed,so as to check whether this method can get rid of the shortcomings of traditional mode to stimulate students 'interest in reading and improve students' English reading skills.Results show that the module teaching method indeed improves English reading teaching in high school.Firstly,it upgrades the traditional textbook-oriented teaching model and is proved to be more effective by making supplement,deletion,adaption or reorganization of the content according to students' acceptance and psychological characteristics from teaching content and instruction form.Secondly,it enhances the students' self-exploration consciousness.Module teaching method focuses on cultivating students' learning ability and advocating self-study,inquiry learning,cooperative learning,and communication between teachers and students.Thirdly,it reinforces the students' English reading ability.Module teaching method advocates students' self-management ability and cultivates students' learning ability.After the implementation of module teaching method,most students can use the learned knowledge and gather information for independent thinking.This study is subject to insufficient research samples and students' low acceptance of the new teaching mode.Finally,the prospect of module teaching method is discussed in the sixth chapter of this thesis.
