Reading teaching is an important part of English teaching in high school.The cultivation of reading ability plays an important role in the development of students' language ability and the formation of key competences in English.The traditional reading teaching mainly focuses on the interpretation and analysis of vocabulary,grammar and sentence patterns in reading texts,supplemented by corresponding reading skills and methods,but not enough attention on the cultivation of students' thinking ability,learning ability and cultural awareness.How to truly achieve the educational purpose of the key competences of English subject in English reading teaching,and how to effectively carry out the education and teaching of subject courses,these problems need us to actively discover and respond.The module teaching method was originally proposed in the context of vocational education,with its basic value orientation of cultivating students' practice,innovation and learning ability,and promoting the improvement of professional skills through the transfer of theoretical knowledge.It can decompose the complex and huge system into several flexible small modules.By solving each module,it can optimize the overall problem,thereby clarifying the learning goals of students and improving the teaching quality of teachers.After the new curriculum standard was released,we introduced the concept of “module” into English reading teaching.From the perspective of a large unit of English reading curriculum,we turned static,separated,and single teaching into dynamic,integrated,and open teaching process to improve the comprehensive effect of English reading teaching.Based on the above considerations,this study explores the teaching model of English reading in senior high school from the perspectives of key competences of English subjuect and modular teaching method.106 students from two classes in Qing'an County No.1 Middle School in Heilongjiang Province are selected as the research objects.Before and after the three-month teaching experiment,experimental method,interview method,and other methods were used to carry out the experiment,and the experimental data was sorted out analysis.The study found that the applicationof the module teaching method in English reading teaching in high school can first improve students' reading comprehension,analysis,language use and language organization in the reading process;Secondly,students have mastered effective learning methods in reading,which has increased their interest in reading;Finally,modular teaching can effectively improve students' language ability,thinking quality and learning ability in the key competences of English subject.At the same time,this study also analyzes the problems encountered in the implementation of the module teaching method.Through analysis and discussion of the causes of the problems,it proposes relevant countermeasures to improve the effectiveness of the module teaching method.The innovation of this study is to combine the modular teaching method with the senior high school English reading teaching under the background of key competences in English,deepen the exploration of the application of key competences,and hope to provide a new perspective for English reading teaching.
