South korea several tanslators have translated<The story of the stone>.When it is translated, one problem is translating Chinese idiom.Because there are unique features of Chinese and Chinese culture in Chinese idiom.Author difine Chinese id iom as Cheng-yu(??),Su-yu(??)and Xie-hou-yu(???).After Korea was free fr om colony in 1945,how did contemporary Korean-translated<The story of the ston e>translate idiom in<The story of the stone>?The thesis of this paper primarily is this question.Author will study features of each Korean-translated<The story of the stone>in translating idiom, and assess each Korean-translated<The story of the stone>.The subject of the study is the 4 contemporary Korean-translated<The story o f the stone>.At first, this paper identify "contemporary" with after Korea was free from colony in 1945.After that time, structure of society was recovering, and stud y about Chinese literature was also developed. After then, several translators translat e<The story of the stone>.This paper study the 4 Korean-translated<The story of the stone>which are selected in several books of Korean-translated<The story of the stone>,because these 4 translations are both "Dan-yi-ben(???)" and "Wan-yi-ben(???)"."Dan-yi-ben(???)'' is what is directly translated from Chinese. An d this isn't what is at first translated from Chinese into foreign language which is not Korean, and then again is translated from foreign language into Korean."Wan-yi-ben(???)" is what is translated from the chapter 1 of<The story of the ston e>to the chapter 120 of<The story of the stone>.The 4 Korean-translation are:? "Cui-rong-che((?)),Gao-min-xi((?))translate.<The story of the stone((?)>1-5,South Korea:Nanam,2009."? "Hong-shang-xun((?))translate.<The story of the stone((?))>1-7.South Korea:Sol,2012."? "1?'Yan-bian university team of translating<The story of the stone>'translate.<The story of the stone((?))>1-4.Yan-ji:Yan-bian people publication,1978.2?'Yan-bian people literature publication team of translation'translate.<The story of the stone((?))>1-4.South Korea:Olje,2016."? "1?An-yi-yun((?)),Jin-guang-lie((?))translate.<The story of the stone((?))>1-5.Beijing:Foreign language publication,1978./2.An-yi-yun((?)),Jin-guang-lie((?))translate.<The story of the stone((?))>1-12.South Korea,Seoul:Cheng-gye((?)),2007."?This paper at first, using how to categorizing of Choi-kwang-sun<A study on the idioms in "Hong-lou-meng">,classify idiom into Cheng-yu,Su-yu and Xie-hou-yu.And author analize how each book of the 4 Korean-translation translate Cheng-yu,Su-yu and Xie-hou-yu.In studying each translation, author refer to special feature so that could analize the feature of each Korean translation.Conseguently the 4 Korean translation have 5 features of translating idiom, that is "substituting Korean idiom for Chinese idiom","specially direct translation","annotation","omission" and "error".Therefore, these 5 features are used to analize the 4 Korean translation. As a result of the study, the 4 Korean translation not only have same features, but also have different features in translating<The story of the stone>.One same feature is“substituting Korean idiom for Chinese idiom" which translaters of the 4 translationgs tried to adopt. If Korean-idiom can be substituted for Chinese-idiom in<The story of the stone>,this is perfect.Because "substituting Korean idiom for Chinese idiom" c-an not only express meaning of Chinese-idiom,but also give Korean readers the mood of idiom. This translation method can be called an achievement of translating Chinese idiom in<The story of the stone>.Different feature of the 4 translations are also found at the 5 features of Kore an translations. That is,some Korean translation used lots of"substituting Korean idiom for Chinese idiom",others used relatively less this method. And some translations used lots of "annotation",but others used relatively less this. There is same situation about "specially direct translation","omission" and "error".These difference directily have influence on assessment of each Korean translation.Because whether these 5 feature of translating idiom to be or not to be is related t-o whether each Korean translation is good or bad."Substituting Korean idiom for Chinese idiom" is excellent method in translating i-diom,and is and achievement. Therefore in "conclusion" athor summarized again a-ll of“Substituting Korean idiom for Chinese idiom" in the translating idiom of<The story of the stone>.Also, author analize what succeeded betwenn the 4 Korean tra-nslation.In the 4 Korean translation,2 books are published in 1970s.Other 2 book-s are published after 21 centuries. As a result, the 2 Korean-translated<The story of the stone>published in 2000s adopted some Korean idioms which are already tr-anslated from Chinese by the 2 Korean translation in 1970s.However the 2 Korea-n translations in 2000s didn't adopt some Korean idioms which 2 translators in 1970s had translated from Chinese idiom. So we can say that the translator hardly ex changed view about translating<The story of the stone>between other translators.Because of this, the achievement which the translators made about Chinese idiom i n the past was less passed on to the later translator.Maybe there is a phenomeno that translators don't appreciate the achievement of the translators in the past.Any way author hope this paper help later translators translate Chinese idiom in<The st ory of the stone>,so that they can publish better and easier translation to Korean r-eaders.
