The source text of this translation practice is selected from Chapter Six of Introduction to Guizhou Culture. The first section of Chapter Six mainly tells about five Guizhou people who made contributions in Chinese history. This report is based on the translation of the first section, which presents five influential representatives from Guizhou of unique regional culture and their stories. In the source text, the representatives are manifested comprehensively, and their stories are rich in contents. However, such works with cultural identity as the source text are seldom advertised and promoted, not to mention that there will be translation of them. The source text is rich in name, toponym, official's name in ancient China and culture-loaded expressions. Many a sentences in it are cited from classics, historical allusions, comments and are in four-character structure. The text is narrated chronologically from far to near,so it is of narration and logicality.Based on that, the translation practice of this text is conducted under the guidance of George Steiner's Fourfold Translation Motion Theory(hereinafter referred to as FTMT)to guide the translation of culture-loaded expressions,four-character structures and ancient official titles.By combining the theory with the practice, the author mainly takes the compensation strategy of the FTMT,hoping that the translation will offer an ideal translated text to its target readers, make even just a little contribution to the promotion of local cultures and lay a deeper foundation for later translation practice of the text's kind.
