A Practice Report On C-E Translation Of Financial Text

Company annual report plays a significant role in disclosure of company information.On the one hand,people get to know the current status of the company;on the other hand,the company is subject to the supervision of the public.More importantly,it is one of most important channels for global investors to obtain company information.Therefore,it is of great necessity for a company to provide a professional English annual report.This practice report studies problems appeared in the translation of Huishang Bank's 2016 Annual Report and proposes corresponding solutions under the guidance of Peter Newmark's text typology and communicative translation.Firstly,the content of the project and its translation procedures are introduced.Secondly,according to Peter Newmark's text typology theory,company annual report is kind of informative text,so translators should adopt communicative translation approach.Thirdly,three levels of translation problems are analyzed,namely lexical,syntactical and textual levels.These problems are caused by lack of background knowledge and awareness of differences between Chinese and English.Fourthly,to achieve the informative function of the text,solutions are recommended to tackle these problems.Communicative translation is a useful approach to translate financial text.This report will provide practical suggestions on the translation of financial text,thus promoting communication between Chinese companies and investors abroad.
