Machine translation(MT)has been widely used in various fields nowadays, especially in the internet and communication technology(ICT)industry. It is determined that the best application of MT is to combine it and human post-editing(PE)in terms of translating technical documents.A number of studies have focused on PE strategies, but studies on specific PE methods used to correct MT errors are rare to see. This thesis is based on the author's experience as a post-editor during the internship in a translation service center of an ICT company. This thesis analyzes a software usage guide based on the text typology theory, providing theoretical support of employing the MTPE strategy in a PE project. To help primary post-editors quickly identify and locate errors, this thesis summarizes common MT errors and explains why they should be corrected.Based on this, the most common PE methods are classified and presented in cases under the guidance of Newmark's communicative translation.Hopefully, the analysis of MT errors and PE methods will contribute to the future application of the MTPE strategy in terms of technical document translation.
