The poetry of Wang Chongyang is an important Taoist corpus in Jin and Yuan Dynasties, which is in the transitional period and can reveals the change of ancient Chinese and new elements in the process of transition. Moreover, most of his poems were written while preaching his religion,so the poetry is filled with colloquialism and reflects colloquial features in that era.In addition,at the present stage, the research of Taoist corpus from the perspective of linguistics is insufficient.Studying on the disyllabic words in the poetry of Wang Chongyang helps us have a better understanding of the characteristics of Taoist corpus. At the same time,we can further reveal the important role of Taoist literature in the history of Chinese vocabulary. We conduct our research on the base of Wang Chongyang's poems and aims to uncover the characteristics of its disyllabic words and the role of Taoist literature in Chinese vocabulary history and put forward new views in the definition and origin of disyllabic words.Through the measurement of statistics, diachronic comparison, and the combination of qualitative and quantitative, description and interpretation method,it is reveled there are 5464 disyllabic words in the corpus, including one morpheme words and compound words. And,the compound words include coordinative compounds, subordinate compounds,verb-object compounds,subject-predicate compounds, affixations, reduplications and so on.This paper is divided into five chapters. The introduction include the research status quo of Wang Zhongyang's poems and disyllabic words and the purpose and the research method of this paper. This paper based on Wang Chongyang Ji(????)which was revised by Bai Ruxiang and use Quan Jing Yuan Ci(????)which was written by Tang Quizhang as a reference. This chapter points out that the research on Wang Zhongyang's poetry mainly focuses on the literary and aesthetic values and the study from the perspective of linguistics, especially the lexical,is insufficient. There are three main reason for this paper:1.research on the disyllabic words has achieved fruitful results, while there is still room for development. For instance, computer technology can be future used and the disyllabic words corpus can be established for the research.2.In terms of the study on Taoist corpus,it still has room for development, especially for which in Jin and Yuan dynasties.3.the corpus can reveal the the change of ancient Chinese and new elements in the process of transition. For the purpose of this paper:1.To determine the criteria for disyllabic words and make the definition clear.2.Make new breakthrough in Chinese vocabulary study.3.Summarize the characteristics of disyllabic words in Wang Chongyang's poetry.4.To make a contribution to“Chinese Dictionary”revision, such as the collection of documentary evidence and missing items. The first chapter is the definition and origin of disyllabic words. We made the definition criterion as follow: 1.compoud with one morpheme;the combination of two or more morphemes has an independent new meaning is a word.2.It is a word if the word has two or more syllables in combination and they cannot be separated.3.It is a word if its grammar function is different from its elements'.4.It is a word if it is rhetorical formation.5.If two disyllabic combinations are in the same syntactic location,if one of them is a word, the other one is a word.In this chapter,we also points out that the origin of compounds polyphyletic: 1.in terms of coordinative compounds, the motivation is rhetoric and rhythm.2.For subordinate compounds, disyllabic words can make it clear semantically, also the economic principle plays a role in its development.3.For verb-object compounds and subject-predicate compounds, the syntactic motivation is important.4.In terms of reduplications, the motivation is iconicity. The chapter 2 describes the simple disyllabic words in Wang chongyang's poetry. There are 144 simple disyllabic words, which is 2.6% of the total amount, including binome words, reduplicated words and transliterated words.Among them, there are 63 reduplicated words and 67 binome words and Transliteration of 15 words. The chapter 3 describes the compound words in Wang chongyang's poetry, including coordinative compounds, subordinate compounds,verb-object compounds,subject-predicate compounds, affixations, reduplications and so on.There are 1498 coordinative compounds and 2916 subordinate compounds, which is the most important word-formation mode. The chapter 4 focuses on the characteristics of disyllabic words in Wang chongyang's poetry. For instance, the word formation method is complete and the coordinative and subordinate structure is the majority. The chapter 5 is using the disyllabic words in Wang Chongyang's poetry to help revise the diachronic dictionary. We add 21 items and provide 12 documentary evidence which is earlier and add 10 item with new meaning. In conclusion part,we summarize the problems discussed in the five chapters of this paper.
