Terminology Management In Translation Project

We are now in an era of "information explosion".The increasingly frequent crosscultural communication has made the traditional translation process and model difficult to meet the growing demands from the language services industry.Under the new model of translation profession,the importance of terminology management is increasingly prominent.For translators,terminology management can ensure the consistency of terminology translation and improve the translation efficiency.For enterprises,terminology is a vital part of the linguistic assets.The effective use of existing terminology resources can reduce the costs of localization and translation and ensure the accuracy and consistency of the content.In an increasingly competitive market,more and more companies have made terminology management a part of their information management strategy.This report is based on the author's project translation practice in Sichuan Lanbridge Information Technology Co.,Ltd.In the translation practice,as an intern translator of the Social Science Translation Team,the author participated in a number of different types of projects which involved terminology extraction,terminology translation,glossary building,text translation and proofreading.In each project,the terminology management is an important part throughout the whole process.The author will take two specific projects as examples to explain and analyze the terminology management in the process of project initiating,planning,executing and ending,including the terminology extraction and its translation before translation,the use of terminological database during translation,its renewal and maintenance after translation and so on.Through this internship,the author realized that language service companies must attach importance to the standardization of the terminology management process,and translators should be proficient in computer-aided translation and other related tools and software,improving the efficiency and quality of terminology management and translation.With this report,the author hopes to deepen the MTI students' understanding of terminology management,especially for those majoring in localization management.
