An Analysis Of The Strategies Adopted In Business Interpreting From The Perspective Of The Skopos Theory

Nowadays,the Chinese government is encouraging domestic enterprises to have a global insight.It is against this background that some small and medium-sized enterprises want to be in line with the world economy.By holding some business sharing sessions or idea exchange meetings,they want to improve their corporate image and reputation.As business interpreters,they should acquire some interpreting skills and some basic knowledge about the business settings.Sometimes,they also need to meet the requirement of the organizers so as to fulfill the purpose of communication and conference.So,it requires interpreters to seek a balance between the information they received and the requirement from the entrusting party.From this perspective,applying some strategies may become a wise decision.This report is based on the interpreting practice conducted by the author in the Sharing Session of Yangqian about the Fashion Trends for Spring and Summer of 2018.The author encountered several difficulties in this task,including language redundancy,buzzwords,unknown terminology and high demanding of output.In this report,the author will use the Skopos Theory as the guidance and talk about the effectiveness of applying strategies such as omission,reorganization,paraphrasing,enquiry and addition.It is hoped that this report could give some inspirations for green hands business interpreters.
