A Report On The Translation Of Research Methodologies In Translation Studies (Excerpts)

The translation material of this translation report comes from Research Methodology in Translation Studies,which was written by Gabriela Saldanha,a lecturer in Translation Studies at the University of Birmingham,UK.and Sharon O'Brien,a lecturer in Translation Studies at Dublin City University,Ireland.Considering the students and scholars need methodologies as the guide to do research on translation studies,this book provides a rigorous and comprehensive introduction to the research methodology in translation studies from an academic perspective.This translation report chooses the first six sections in Chapter 5 “Participant-oriented Research” as the source text,which contains approximately 15,610 words and generally includes questionnaires,designing questionnaire surveys,data collection using questionnaires,interviews and focus groups,as well as designing interviews and focus groups.I analyze the problems confronted in the process of this translation,discuss the corresponding translation methods,and add a theoretical afterthought on the basis of this translation practice.This translation report can be divided into five parts.Chapter One “Task Description” gives an introduction to the author,the book and the source text I translated.Chapter Two “Process Description” explores the preparation,translation process and proofreading.Chapter Three “Case Study” takes the translations as the examples from word,sentence and textual aspects,and analyzes the translation methods in solving these problems.Chapter Four “Process-oriented Research”theoretically summarizes this translation practice as an afterthought,covering the translation theories,which I have applied intentionally or unintentionally,such as equivalence theory and functionalist approaches.Chapter Five “Conclusion” sums up the achievements and reflections of the translation practice.
