Translation is not only a cross-language communication behavior but also a cross-cultural communication process and activity.Cross-cultural communication focuses on the exchange activities among members of different cultural communities, covering verbal and non-verbal communicative processes. As China takes an active part in world's political and economic activities, the pace of Chinese culture's“going out”is quickening. In 2013,China proposed the Belt and Road Initiative, which has led to closer cultural exchanges of countries along the route. On May 18th,2017,China hosted Cultural Development Forum on Belt and Road Initiative in Shenzhen. This mock consecutive interpreting report is written under the guidance of Nida's functional equivalence theory, using a keynote speech at the Cultural Development Forum on Belt and Road Initiative. The purpose is to explore how to achieve effective communication between different cultural backgrounds. The report describes all the processes of this mock consecutive interpreting, including preparations before interpreting, case studies on the lexical and syntactic level, interpreting process, the difficulties encountered in practice and the countermeasures in solving them.Through the combination of theory and practice, the findings are:first, interpreters should pay attention to the language habits of the source language and the target language, and maintain cultural sensitivity to cultural differences in language;second,at the lexical level, interpreters need to explain some cultural blanks of the target language on the basis of cultural sensitivity to achieve the purpose of information transfer and cross-cultural communication, such as proper expressions with Chinese characteristic,Chinese four-character idioms, etc.;third,at the syntactic level, when facing Chinese classic poems and complex sentences, interpreters need to shake off the source language constraints and reprocess the information they heard after fully understanding the information contained in the source language, and employ the expression which is close to the target language in order to meet the requirements of the target language.Nida's functional equivalence theory provides guidance for this interpreting practice.Through this practice, the interpreter adheres to the principles of lexical equivalence, syntactic equivalence to improve cross-cultural communication skills and bilingual processing capabilities. In the process of interpreting, literal translation, adding requisite explanations, division and other methods are adopted to explain cultural images to achieve the best results and realize effective communication.
