A Practice Report On The Translation Of The Kandy-Kolored Tangerine-Flake Streamline Baby (Chapters 17-18)

This report is an introduction and analysis of one of the English-Chinese translation practice activities organized by my tutor that I have participated in.My task was translating the 17 th and 18 th chapters of The Kandy-Kolored Tangerine-Flake Streamline Baby,which was a collection of works of news report.My tutor suggested the translation principle and criteria corresponding to this “literary Journalism”.Guided by them,I finished the task within the prescribed time and my translation,having undergone several revisions,won in the end the acclaim from my tutor.This report presents a full knowledge and summary of what I have learned from this practice.The translation practice report is divided into five chapters.They are Task Description,Process Description,Preparations for Translation,Case Analysis and Summary.The first chapter describes task source,task content,task requirements and task completion performance.The second chapter introduces task acceptation,preparations,translating and revision.The third chapter is the detailed description of the preparations for translation such as the extensive and intensive reading of the source text,the reading of parallel texts,the access to translation tools and the knowing of the translation principle and criteria.The fourth chapter is the case analyses of my translation,which are made at the lexical,syntactical,rhetorical and textual levels,combined with translation strategies and in accordance with the relevant translation principle and criteria.The fifth chapter is the summary of the merits and demerits of this translation practice,from which I learn that a man who wants to be a qualified translator must be always arming himself with translation knowledge and enhance cultural quality.
