Viewing The Translation Of The Church Of Fear-Inside The Weird World Of Scientology Through Three Rules Of Skopos Theory

The word Skopos comes from Greek, meaning "aim" or "purpose". It was introduced into translation theories by Hans J. Vermeer in 1970s to demonstrate the purpose of the translating action.Skopos is greatly concerned by scholars at home and abroad. They have made a lot of explanations and researches about the major contents of this theory, such as the analysis of Skopos, rational reflection of Skopos, the examination of translation strategies from the perspective of Skopos and so on.In this thesis, on the basis of previous researches and what I have learned, I make full use of three rules of Skopos:coherence, skopos and loyalty into the translation of religious literature. On one hand, these three rules can guide the translation; on the other hand, the translation of this piece of religious literature can embody these three rules so that I can combine the theory with the practice to have further understanding of these three rules, and to compensate the shortage of researches in combing the three rules of Skopos with the translation of religious literature to improve the quality and readability of this kind of translation.The main contents of this thesis include:an overall analysis and summary of Skopos itself as well as a review of the researches at home and abroad; secondly, a critique of the three rules of Skopos; and the translation of this literature work from the perspective of the three rules of Skopos.
