Strategies Of Literary Translation From The Perspective Of Skopos Theory

Literary translation has a long retrospective history. With the rapid development of society, more and more cultural exchanges are springing up both in China and abroad, and translation work gradually shows its importance. In the meanwhile, translators are faced with the choice of different translation strategies and standards. Some people think literary translation is just a word-for-word matter, but this idea actually neglects the spiritual orientation and loses the literariness and accuracy of literary works.With the translation of The Enemies of Books as the research sample, this report intends to analyze the instructive meaning of the three rules of the Skopos theory. Skopos theory, which was first introduced in the 1970 s in Germany, is a new translation theory. In the translation process of The Enemies of Books, in order to accomplish it successfully, the writer of this report chooses suitable translation methods and strategies on account of the difference of language and culture. And this report analyzes the accuracy and literariness of literary translation from the aspects of the Skopos rule, the coherence rule and the loyalty rule, aiming to show that the Skopos theory, if used properly, can guide translators in their literary translation process.Through an in-depth analysis, this report shows that the three rules of the Skopos theory, namely the Skopos rule, the coherence rule and the loyalty rule, can guide translators to achieve the accuracy and literariness of literary translation effectively. The writer hopes the Skopos theory can be used as a useful guidance with which the translator can choose useful and relevant translation strategies in the process of literary translation.
