The fast changing world and the uncertain career prospect make people face major choice.The importance of self-career management is becoming increasingly prominent.For college students in China,their importance is even more significant.The career construction theory points out that career adaptability is an important psychological construction and resource for individuals to keep their vitality in a fast changing society,an important ability for individuals to adapt to their career dilemmas and challenges,and an important psychological construct for individuals to successfully deal with career events such as rapid changing professional environment and professional role change.The existing studies of individual traits on career adaptability have shown that proactive personality has an important influence on the individual’s career development and can take effect through direct and indirect methods.The research is based on Social Cognitive Theory.Two intermediary variables,career decision-making self-efficacy and career exploration,were introduced in this relationship.Based on 2929 effective questionnaires from 23 universities across the country,a structural equation model and an intermediate utility test were conducted.The results show that proactive personality has a direct and significant effect on career adaptability,and that career decision-making self-efficacy and career exploration have significant mediating effects;further,the chain-mediated utility of career decision-making self-efficacy and career exploration is also significant exist.That is to say,this study constructs the chain-mediated mediation utility model of “proactive personality→career decision-making self-efficacy→professional exploration→career resilience”to further understand the action mechanism of active personality on career adaptability.This research conclusion has important practical significance for Chinese college students in improving their career resilience,training high-quality personality in colleges and universities,selecting talents for talents in science and rationally developing human resources.The main contribution of the research lies in the discussion of the influence of proactive personality on career adaptability based onsocial cognitive theory in the environment where people,environment,and behavior interact with each other.First,the complex relationship between the four variables is clarified.Second,it integrates knowledge in three interdisciplinary fields: psychology,sociology,and behavioral science,and fully shows that the influence of active personality on career adaptability is exerted in the process of interaction between people,the environment,and behavior.With the concept of dynamic development.
