| The translator selects Chapter 1-3 of Nick Creech’s children’s literary work A Way with Dragons(2013)as the source text.The three chapters mainly talk about the adventure journey of Cary,Cash and a dragon named Pythagoras.They are going to find an amulet.The novel describes the brotherhood between the twins,and the spirit of sacrificing for the sake of national interests.The report attempts to study the translation of children’s literature from the perspective of reception theory.The key points of reception theory are reader-centered status and horizon of expectation,which can offer guiding significance to the translation of children’s literature.This report,based on the characteristics of children’s literature and expectations of children readers,discusses the difficulties in the process of translation.Besides,the report adopts relevant translation skills and strategies to meet the expectations of children readers.Guided by the reception theory,the translator explores corresponding skills to analyze examples from linguistic level and rhetorical level.At linguistic level,the translator uses reduplicated words,onomatopoeia and interjections to make the target text more vivid.Besides,the translator adopts amplification,division and word order adjustment to make sentences clearer and more acceptable.At the rhetorical level,simile,parallelism,repetition and personification are adopted for conforming to expectations of readers.After detailed analysis,the translator makes the conclusion that reception theory provides great guidance for the translation of children’s literature,so as to realize the aesthetic value of children’s literature. |
