The rapid development of science and technology has been recognized as a facilitator of educational reform.MOOC,Flipped Classroom,blended learning,etc have already been used widely in schools to improve teaching.Writing,one of the five basic skills(listening,speaking,reading,writing,& viewing)of English learning,is a skill in which experts and teachers have tried for decades to improve.Yet many problems still remain.This research aims to find out whether the Flipped Classroom can help to improve students' English writing in a senior high school.The Flipped Classroom is also called “reversed classroom” or “inversed classroom”,which refers to the readjustment of the time inside and outside the classroom.Learning is carried out outside the classroom and homework is brought into the class.Writing is one of the five basic skills of English learning,while in reality many problems have still existed in English writing in senior high school.In order to change the traditional teaching and learning model,this research aims at working out the effect of the Flipped Classroom on English writing in senior high school to provide another way to improve English writing.To explore an effective method to improve the current situation of English writing and writing teaching,two specific research questions were proposed in this study.Question1: Can the Flipped Classroom improve students' English writing skills more effectively compared with the traditional classroom teaching in English writing?Question2: What is the students' acceptance level of the Flipped Classroom to English writing in senior high school? Can this kind of learning arouse students' writing interest?This research aims to find out the effect of the Flipped Classroom in English writing by conducting an experiment on 80 year-11 students from Xi'an Foreign Language School.The experiment was carried out within a semester,from October2017 to February 2018.Before the experiment,the students in both classes were pretested to know their basic English level,especially,writing abilities.After the experiment,the students took a writing test and responded to a questionnaire about their interest towards the Flipped Classroom.The results indicated that compared with the traditional classroom teaching in English writing,the Flipped Classroom can improve students' English writing skills more effectively and arouse students' writing interest as well as their learning interest.Therefore,the application of the Flipped Classroom to English writing in senior high school has a positive significance.
