This is a report based on E-C translation cooperation between Guilin Research Center for Government Digit Dissemination and Culture as a Soft Power and Guangxi Normal University.The author is responsible for the translation of the text entitled with Russia's Contribution to China's Surface Warfare Capabilities.Through the analysis of the original text,it can be seen that Russia has made contribution to China's improving its surface warfare capabilities and the strength of its weaponry and equipment.At the same time,it can help the readers understand the vigorous development of China's surface warfare capabilities and national defense since reform and opening up.It can be found that by the information which involved in the source text produces great impact on the target text readers.Therefore,through analyzing the practicability of the text,the author tries to explore the translation of the source text under the guidance of equivalent effect.Theory of equivalent effect,produced by Jin Di,can be regarded as a successful attempt to explore the approach to the translation effect being close to the source text,which consists of three concepts.They are the concept of receptor,the concept of effect as well as the concept of equivalence.As mentioned above,Jin Di's theory of equivalent effect emphasized the relationship between the information and the receptor,thus the author adopts appropriate translation strategies and skills fort translation practice guiding with these three concepts of the theory.This report consists of five chapters.The first chapter introduces the source of the translation project,the significance of the translation project and the project requirements.The second chapter is preparation involving the analysis of the linguistic features from three levels of vocabulary,syntax,and text.The third chapter is mainly established from the theory proposed by Jin Di,and deeply sums up the concept of recipient,the concept of effect and the concept of equivalence.The fourth chapter is the core of this report.Under the guidance of Jin Di's theory of equivalent effect,the author analyzes the difficulties in the process of translating military English and further discusses the specific translation strategies and techniques.In the last chapter,the author summarizes the enlightenments from the translation and proposes the problems unsolved.This report proves that Jin Di's theory of equivalent effect has explanatory power and applicability in the process of translating military English text.At the same time,this report makes the author fully realize that bilingualism and professional knowledge are important guarantees to finish the translation task.Practice has proved that Jin Di's theory of equivalent effect can provide theoretical guidance for the translation of military English texts.
