The modal verb is an unavoidable knowledge point in teaching Chinese as a foreign language.It is also a kind of word that occurs frequently in Chinese language learning and daily communication,but students produces many errors.Modal verbs is a limited number of these words,but the meaning complex.The special grammatical features of Chinese have become the difficulties point of students in Thailand.With the development of the Chinese as a foreign language in Thailand and the increasing number of learning people,it is very necessary for the modal verb teaching and the related research to be nationalized.This paper,based on previous researches,the author selecting “ xiang? yao? hui? neng?keyi”,on the base of error analysis and discussed the causes of errors,making several suggestions in teaching Chinese as a second language.It is divided into six parts:The first part introduces the reasons of choosing and significance of the topic,the range of the research,the methods and theories of the study.The second part analyzes the meanings of Chinese modal verbs“ xiang? yao? hui? neng?keyi”,summarizes the differences of similar verbs and compares Chinese with Thai verbs.The third part analyzes the errors of Thailand students using Chinese modal verbs.It sums up four types of errors in Thailand students: misplacement,omission,missequence and negation.The fourth part discusses the causes of errors in Thailand students,and concludes that the main causes of errors are: influence of mother tongue,reasons for textbooks,reasons for teachers,learning strategies and communication strategies.In the fifth part,according to the causes of the errors and the actual teaching situation,we put forward the teaching strategies for Thailand students learning Chinese modal verbs.The last part Concluding,Concluding the research work,points out the innovations and shortcomings of this paper.
