The question of justice is the eternal theme of the exploration of political philosophy.Plato is the first thinker to clarify the theory of justice in history, and his idea of justice has a very important influence on the justice thought of later generations. Therefore,in the study of western justice thought,it is impossible to avoid Plato. The study of Plato’s theory of justice can help us understand the origin of western justice thought and help us to better understand Plato’s political thought. In the republic,Plato discusses his own view of justice mainly through city-state justice and soul justice, how to realize justice and what benefits does justice have,That is,everyone does what suits his nature to achieve a state of social harmony, emphasizing the essence of justice is harmony. However, due to the limitation of Plato’s time, his justice thought also has some shortcomings, mainly manifested as: His concept of justice has a certain idealistic and hierarchical nature.Besides, his view of justice also has a certain level system colour,so Plato’s view of justice is a political view based on inequality.Nevertheless, the historical position and academic value of the republic are still irreplaceable. Therefore,we need to make a reasonable modern interpretation of Plato’s view of justice, which is of great significance to the construction of modern society.Firstly, this paper elaborates and analyzes the historical background and theoretical origin of Plato’s thought of justice,so as to explore the external factors of the formation of his thought of justice. Then, the focus is returned to Plato’s original works, and the content of justice concept in the republic is sorted out and explored, mainly from the essence of justice, the construction of justice, the goal and the way to realize justice and Plato’s reflection on his justice view in his old age.The last chapter appraises Plato’s view of justice from historical contribution and historical limitation. This chapter focuses on elaborating the connotation of justice view of harmonious socialist society with Chinese characteristics, and compares it with Plato’s.
