This is a report based on the translation of The Art of Advocacy: Briefs,Motion,and Legal Writing Strategies of America's Best Lawyer(Chapter 7 to Chapter 10)written by lecturer of Yale Noah A.Messing and published in 2013.This book covers strategies of advocacy and tips on how to write legal documents correctly and effectively.Chapters 7 to 10 present the arguments required in advocacy to achieve the goal of winning lawsuits from the perspectives of text,legislative history,politics and history,which is of significant value to relevant legal personnel.However,this book has not been translated into Chinese yet.Therefore,the writer of the report determines to translate the Chapters 7 to 10 of the book for legal personnel's reference.This report mainly analyzes the translation of Chapters 7 to 10 of this book,and designed in 4 parts.The report elaborately explains and introduces the background and aims of this translation practice in the first part.This part will give the readers a preliminary cognition of this book and the report.The second part is about some preparations before translation task and the post-translation managements.In the most important third part,by analyzing the features of the source text,and combining with the results of previous studies on legal language features and translation strategy of static equivalence and theory of translation context,this report explores some problems that may occur during the process of the translation practice and provide some appropriate solutions.In the last part,the writer analyzes her own enlightenment from the translation practice,implications and shortcomings of this report.In the translating process,the writer of this report found that she should try her best to understand the author's intent and transfer it to target readers so as to achieve information equivalence between the source text and target text,when translating legal academic work.In addition,she hopes that introduction to some excellent lawyers' advocacy strategies is of value to those students who are majored in law,and the legal personnel.
